What is a Market Maker?

Posted by

As you look into the possibility of purchasing vehicles through a Copart auto auction, you may come across a few terms you have never seen before, such as Market Makers.

At Copart, Market Makers are businesses or individuals who help facilitate the sale of auction vehicles, very similar to Brokers. Market Makers allow buyers who prefer a more traditional way of doing business to have face to face interaction with a representative as they search for vehicles. Unlike brokers, who consumers are usually connected to online, Market Makers provide a physical storefront, separate from a Copart facility, where buyers can come and access online auctions. They may be located in the US or in locations around the globe.

Copart’s Registered Market Maker locations have computer kiosks where buyers can search through Copart’s inventory. At each location, there are independent members who are authorized by Copart to assist buyers with searching for a vehicle. Once a buyer has decided on a vehicle, the Market Maker will bid on the vehicle for the buyer. Different Market Makers can bid on different vehicles depending on their registration classification and the vehicle location.

Some Market Makers provide additional services including exporting and shipping. Market Makers work independently from Copart and charge varying fees. Thoroughly read through the Market Makers terms to ensure you understand the fees and the services they offer. Market makers are often located overseas and assist international consumers.
