Copart locations across the country offer their local fire departments a safe and secure place as well as equipment to hold safety drills and host events. These relationships bring the community together and encourage collaboration to bring awareness and promote safety. In Indianapolis and Pennsylvania local fire departments have taken advantage of Copart’s willingness to host events, and they have formed strong and lasting partnerships.
In Pennsylvania, the Nanty Glo Fire Department held an event with the help of Copart Altoona supplying vehicles in the exercises.
The event took place at Blacklick Valley High School as a way to promote safe driving. The fire department created a mock accident scene just before the high school prom was to be held in order to bring home the idea of the dangers of drinking and driving.
In August, the fire department will host one of the largest vehicle extraction classes in the county with a visiting trainer from Florida. Copart Altoona is proud to provide a safe practice space for the two-day training event.
In Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Fire Department held a three-day training at Copart. For the event, Copart provided the location and vehicles, two local Copart Members donated vehicles and one of Copart’s contract sub-haulers provided free-towing. During the training, the fire department tested out the Jaws of Life hydraulic rescue tool and carried out training sessions for their own personnel.
Fred Pervine, the Indianapolis Deputy Chief agrees that the event was a great success and is grateful to Copart Indianapolis for helping to set up the event and provide the much needed space to host such an impactful event.
