Exporting Vehicles from the U.S. Without a Certificate of Title

Posted by

Exporting vehicles from the United States that do not have a certificate of title (clean title) can be challenging and sometimes impossible.

Follow the steps below before attempting to export any vehicle from the United States, especially vehicles without a certificate of title:

  • Know the title type or ownership document that is available to the buyer for the vehicle.

To find the document type for a vehicle on which you would like to bid, find the Doc Type field on any vehicle’s lot details page:

Clicking the QMsymbol will reveal further information regarding the document type, if available.

  • Consult the freight forwarder or transportation agent who will be handling the export process for you, or contact a US Customs agent at the intended port of export.
  • Do not bid on a vehicle until you have confirmed that the title or other ownership document is sufficient for export purposes.
