Copart doesn’t just want our Members to experience a great auto auction—we want you to win the vehicles you want at the best price. And to do that, we’re giving you five tips to start your auctions off the right way. With these tips and a little practice, you’ll be buying like a pro in no time!
Start Off on the Right Foot
Don’t go into auctions blindly. Before you place your first bid, consider the following:
- How much am I prepared to spend?
- Is this vehicle what I need?
- Have I budgeted for fees and transportation?
Asking yourself these questions will help you set expectations, be prepared and reduce the number of potential “surprises” you may encounter.
Start with No License Required Vehicles
It can be little overwhelming trying to figure out which vehicles you can buy without a business license in your area. While you can check out our licensing page to see what the rules are in any U.S. state, you can also simplify your search even more by looking at No License Required vehicles. That way you’ll be able to bid on them without worrying about a business license.
Use the Vehicle Finder
Having almost 200,000 vehicles to explore is amazing, but it can also be overwhelming especially if this is your first auto auction. If you’re looking for something specific, you can use the Vehicle Finder to search for all sorts of vehicles by type, year, make, model or location. Find what you’re looking for without going through thousands of listings!
Check out Multiple Listings
Speaking of thousands of listings, the best advice we can give to new bidders is to not get too attached to just one listing. Check out multiple listings and keep searching. You might not win the first time, but if you’re constantly looking, at least you won’t have to start completely over again.
Don’t Give up
Unfortunately, not everyone wins at an auction. If you’re striking out a lot, you might consider searching through some Buy It Now listings while you keep trying. These listings allow you to buy a vehicle you really love without the competition.
